Q/A Music Khowledge - part 3
My singing isn’t clear and melody-like. Mine is more like rusty and forced. What are some ways to
help me improve my singing?
There are many ways to improve your singing skills. First of all you need to know your voice range. Many people can sing easily in lower octaves, many are at ease in the middle octaves whereas some people can sing with comfort in the third of high octave. I would suggest that you start picking
songs that are composed in middle octave. Try to practice each song for about 10 times, you will start feeling the improvement in your voice as the vocal cords would relax by regular singing. Also try to use a cup of black tea mixed with half lemon juice and a small piece of ginger. I write answers to the music related questions daily, may be you would like to visit my blogg:

How long did it take you to learn how to improvise on your instrument?
That is a very logical question, well every art needs improvisation, in order to be able to reach that stage you need to practice a lot, on regular basis, on the instrument that you play. When you are comfortable playing any melody on the instrument then the improvisation comes. I always suggest that a person must always go forimprovisation once he can fluently play the melodies. Music theory plays vital role in improvisation of your extra skill. All the musicians , who are play for the last 10 years of so, know that the stage comes when automatically your fingers would improvise the melody to enhance its beauty pleasing to the audience. Can anybody and everybody learn to sing?
Yes every person who has voice can sing, but singing would depend on the frequency of the vocal range of the person. Everyone can not sing in low octave, or in high octave, mostly people are at ease in the middle octave. In my opinion if the person has basic knowledge of the music theory he can easily cope with the singing, though it may not be professional but still he can sing with regular practice. may be my blog can provide you anser to many questions, read:

What is mixing in music?
This is a very professional question, well the term mixing is mostly used while making sound tracks and later mixing the vocal of the singer with the track. professionally the mixing is the balancing of all the instruments used in the track according to their frequency. The music track would never sound perfect without proper mixing. Coming back to mixing of vocal, In Indian music the level of the music is 30 to 70 which means the voice of the singer must be at the volume of 70 and the music should be low at 30 while mixing, however the intervals, interludes can be magnified to 40%. In western music stress is more on music rahter thank the vocal,,,,so it is mostly 50% by 50% which means the voice and the orchestra and almost on the same level.
