SINGING TECHNIQUES USED IN INDIAN MUSIC VS WESTERN MUSIC
In indian music the singer is supposed to sign in a full throated manner. Apart from this this singer is expected to sing in all the three octaves which means, lower, middle and high octave. He has to be very fluent in all the three octaves to sing the indian melody properly. just to make it easy to understand, he should be able to sing from the G note of the lower octave to the E note of the high octave. false seto sound is not permitted in indian music. It is forbidden. So we can say that each note has to be sung with full throat and thow. In western music there is a believe that each person has special kind of voice, may be he is good in lower octave, in middle octave or in high octave, so this would be classifed on the convenience of the singer because they would have particular range in which they feel comfortable. They dont have to move in all three octave. So they can operate in their specific terretory. Basically there are four ranges of voices from low to high notes and they are called Saprano, Alto, Tenor and base. Base and saptrano are male voices while Alto and Tenor are female voices. In indian music the note is used as plain whereas in western music the note is prolonged by vibrato. Vibrato means to give a wavey vibration given to the note in order to sustain it. Similarly the setting of indian classical concert is different from the setting of western classical concert. In indian classical music there is very minimal setting which means
there are very few musicians that participate in concert. The main artist sings only one melody and the supporting artists just follow the melody. So there is a characteristic to improvise the melody by the main artist. The main artist is at liberty to improvise the melody as he wishes to make it feel good in listening. In western classical concert there is grand setting of instruments and people to make it a big Orchestera. In western music there is a concept of harmony and one person can not perform harmony so he needs to have supporting artists too. So it can be termed as a team work wherein all the artists whether singers or musicians participate. Everyone has his own line to contribute in the harmony. Well this does not mean in western music they dont have solo performances, yes they do have but the supporting artists do not follow the main melody but the consonate melodies to creat harmony. Thats why the music is pre written and there is no scope of imporvisation.

There is so much that is wrong about your idea of western music. You don't even attempt to distinguish between Western classical and popular music. So are you comparing Indian classical with Western classical or popular? The classifications Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass are generally relevant within the context of opera and choral music only. In opera is where such distinctions truly mean something whereas these distinctions hold little water in popular music or even choral music (non-operatic). Also, Sopranos and Altos are female voices while Tenors and Basses are male voices. All it takes to confirm that is a simple google search, but obviously the concept of actually researching something before writing on it is foreign to you.
